Crushing: a documentary short

As Natachi Onwuamaegbu began writing a monologue for Crushing (the live show),  co-directors Carly Steyer and Megan Calfas grew fascinated at their collaborator's process of taking this most intimate part of her life, putting it into words, and then putting that work of art on display to hundreds of strangers at a theater in New York City. They began filming her process and conducting honest interviews about the hardest parts of being in love and turning love into art.

Seven months later, the footage had spawned a short documentary film. Steyer and Calfas conducted remote shoots with Onwuamaegbu as she prepared her piece at home in Nairobi, Kenya. Filming continued in New York City, during rehearsals leading up to the sold-out run at Dixon Place, and in the aftermath of the performance. The film stars Natachi Onwuamaegbu, and is directed and produced by Carly Steyer and Megan Calfas. It was shot by Eurica Yu, and intended for release in spring of 2024.
